Hi, my name is Jimmi and I am the founder of Southside Mentoring!

I moved to Adelaide from England about 14 years ago with my wife and two children, Joey and Lauren. 

After working in the construction industry for about 20 years, I unfortunately had to give up that career due to health reasons. 

Knowing I could not work in another physically demanding job, I went to a job agency, and they asked me if I had ever thought about being a support worker. I had thought about it before but had no idea where to start. 

Before I knew it I was enrolled in a Certificate 3 of Individual Support. About halfway through my course I landed myself a job with a local company. My first client was a lovely gentleman who I would assist in accessing the community 6 hours a week. 

I fell in love with the job straight away, and I knew this was the industry that I wanted to work in. 

I contacted my supervisor about meeting more clients and I soon had built over 40 hours with a number of different clients, assisting them in accessing the community and reaching their goals. I gained more and more valuable experience and became more aware of my skills to engage with clients, listen to clients and teach clients new skills.

My son Joey took an interest in the industry also and before I knew it we were both at maximum capacity supporting clients privately. As we were still growing bigger, I decided to take on my first mentor. New participants kept coming through, so I hired more and more mentors to keep up with the demand. 

In 2020, I took a leap of faith and decided to set up my own business. This is when I founded Southside Mentoring and below are the amazing team we have today. 

Hiya, I’m Joey! I’m 20 years old, and I’ve been working for Southside Mentoring since it’s early days, about three years ago!

I’ve got my Certificate III in Individual Support, and have a wide range of hobbies, including playing soccer (Go Manchester United!), going to the gym, playing 8-ball and darts, food (if you’re willing to cook!), fishing and socialising.

I’m super approachable and down to earth guy that loves to get out in the community. I believe everyone deserves the opportunity to enjoy their community and pursue the things they enjoy. Supporting and caring for others in my main passion in life, and I would love to support you in achieving your goals.

Hi, my names Jake! I'm 20 years old and I love getting involved within the community.

I find interest in things like video games, long boarding, playing sports, going to the beach, going on walks, and interacting with new people! I also have a pretty big family so have been around kids and young people my whole life! You’ll be surprised by what I might know about or have in common with you 

Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends and family, alongside keeping fit by playing soccer and being involved in the gym.
I’m a chatty and confident guy, who would love to meet new people and learn new things! If you would like someone to get out-and-about with, or just someone to chill and have a chat with, I can be your guy!

Hi! How are you? My name is Jay! I’m 20 years old 

I have a big passion for the outdoors! – kicking a ball around with my friends, camping out on the beach, working out, and going for hikes. 

I do enjoy a bit of downtime though! I also enjoy watching a good movie and playing video games with my mates – my main faves being Call of Duty, Overwatch, Fifa, GTA, Cyberpunk, Minecraft, anything to do with Starwars, Apex Legends, and the list goes on and on and on!

I’m a really friendly, laidback guy who can chat about pretty much anything and find the fun in any situation! If you’d like some support in home or in the community, I’d love to lend a hand! 

Hi! My name is Peter 

I'm 56 years old and I've passionately worked as a support worker for a number of years.

My other big passion in life is soccer! – I have previously refereed for the Football Federation of South Australia (FFSA) and the South Australian Amateur Soccer League (SAASL). Don't worry though, I also enjoy other sports like basketball and footy, doing some gardening, and travelling around. A fun fact about me is that I can also speak and read Greek!

Hi! My name is Lauren, 

I'm 18 and I am a recent addition to the Southside Mentoring team. I have experience in shadow shifts over the past few years helping me learn and observe what it takes to be a mentor. I have also recently completed my year 12 certificate so I have plenty of availability to meet and support you. 

My favourite activities include beauty, such as makeup and hair. I love listening to music, watching sunsets at the beach, op shopping, taking pictures on my camera, watching movies, ice skating, bowling and going to the gym!

I am very friendly, open minded person and I would love to help support you!
